Gas Grills

My gas grill barbecue does not get hot enough and my gas grill will only stay lit for a limited time. What could be causing this?
There could be several causes of this problem. First check to see that you are not out of LP Gas. Another cause could be that the excess flow device on your drop-in gas grill has been activated. This could be as a result of a leak in the system or a burner valve may have been open when the cylinder was opened. In the case of a leak perform a leak test by brushing soapy water on all connections. If burner valve on your Weber gas grill was open at the time of opening the cylinder, turn the valve to the off position close the valve on the LP cylinder, disconnect the regulator from the tank. Reconnect the regulator to the tank slowly open the valve on the tank and then turn a main burner valve to the lighting position.

What could cause uneven heat while cooking with my outdoor gas grill?
Although not considered normal, a possible cause for uneven heat with your gas grill is a blockage in the burner venturi tubes. It is possible for small insects to get inside the venturi tubes of the burner. Any blockage inside of the venturi tubes could cause uneven heat. Cleaning instructions for portable gas grills can be found on page 5 of your propane manual, or page 4 of your natural gas manual.

Why do I have a YELLOW flame in my gas grill and how can I fix it?
A yellow flame in a gas grill can be caused by two things: bad air/propane mixture, or a dirty burner. Try adjusting the air vent, the silver round disk behind the control knob on your gas grill. This will allow more/less air to be mixed with the propane and will generally result in a blue flame (blue flame with yellow tips is good).

If you have tried adjusting your air vent on your gas grill and still have a yellow flame you will need to clean out your burner. Please note that even brand new burners can be clogged, by dust or other particles from storage or transit. To clean out your gas grill's burner simply take an air compressor, and stick it in the air vent. This will flush out any problems that may be clogging the burner. If an air compressor is not readily available a garden hose may be used instead. However, with a garden hose you will need to dump the water out of the burner and wait approximately one half hour for the gas grill to dry, before the gas grill can be used.

I can't get any heat out of my gas grill burner, or when I turn the gas grill on high I still get a tiny flame - How do I fix this?
You are experiencing low flow mode. Low flow mode is a safety feature caused when the regulator thinks there is a propane leak with your gas grill. To correct the problem, make sure that the propane hose has been attached to the stove with a wrench (not just finger tight). Confirm that all of the control knobs are turned to the 'OFF' position. Remove the hose from the propane tank and let rest for approximately 30 seconds, as this will reset the regulator. Re-connect the hose to the propane tank on your gas grill. Turn the propane tank on SLOWLY for the first one to two turns, this will allow the propane to fill into the stove manifold. Turn the control knob to 'WARM' and relight the burner on your gas grill. After the burner has been lit turn the propane tank on the rest of the way. After you have finished cooking on your gas grill make sure the turn the knob to the 'OFF' position first, and then shut off the propane tank. If you have followed these steps and you still have a low flame, you may have a propane leak.

How do I check for gas leaks on my stainless steel gas grill?
To test for a leak on your gas grill, pour soapy water over the valves, manifold, and propane hose. Turn on your propane tank and watch for bubbles to form.
